Letters from the Bride and Groom

Dear Guest,

Shatavia and I meet in high school. I never knew that we would be dating someday. We had a great friendship during high school and still do today. We played soccer together, and STLT (Student Technology Leadership Team). I got to know her better as a friend during those long days working on the website and it gave us an opportunity to bond.

The STLT crew was like a family and there were several of us but my friendship with Shatavia continued to grow. When graduation came along and I decided not to date for a while and just be single. Until one day it was Shatavia's birthday and I asked her if she would go to a soccer game with me but only as friends. On that faithful day something clicked and I just knew that I could see myself dating her. She liked the same things I did. I loved how she was quiet around people and I was the one that was always was talking. It was our friendship that we have shared together over the last 8 years that created a strong chemistry
between us.

I didn't know how she felt but I definitely had feelings for this amazing girl. Well, we decided to go eat at Beyond the Edge because it was our favorite place to eat. Shatavia noticed that I was a little nervous and she kept on asking if I was OK and I said yes. I had a lot on my mind and she was OK. But what I had on my mind was will she say yes for us to start dating. I didn't think I could have taken the rejection but I would have understood. Well I asked her and she of course said yes, and then I was back to my cheerful self and no worries of any kind.  Later she asks me is that what was bothering me and of course I had to say yes. All this happened on March 8TH, 2007 and since then we have been going strong.

Dear Guest,

Our relationship has improved my life for the better. I was extremely shy in high school had a few close friends and I actually preferred it that way. I was not the most outgoing person. As for Mateen he has always been so outgoing and easy to like.

Our senior year we became best friends we spent a lot of time hanging out and getting to know one another. After we graduated from high school our friendship grew stronger and it was hard for me to only see him as a friend. I wanted more. I wasn't sure how he felt. So I decided not to act on my feelings because I did not want to ruin our friendship. It was hard because he was in Clarksville going to Austin Peay State University and at the time I was attending Trevecca Nazarene University and we couldn't spend as much time together as we wanted to. All we had were holidays and school breaks.

So we spent our first semester of college as just friends, but our second semester of college that faithful Spring Break 2007 Mateen Sidiq nervously asked me to be his girlfriend. Of course I said "Yes". I was surprised and happy at the same time. Being in college at the time and being in a serious relationship was difficult for us. Going to different schools in other cities didn't make our relationship easy, but it made us stronger.

Now almost nine years later (on March 2016) we are still together but ENGAGED! Since our engagement we have grown so much closer. Mateen and I will be together for nine years before we get married. I am so excited and thrilled to know I will be spending the rest of my life with my best friend. I told myself as a child that I would marry someone like Mateen, respectful, caring, sincere, compassionate, understanding, honest, and funny. Also stubborn, which I love sometimes.

  2. Ohhh! I'm sooo touched by your story you guys. I am very much inspired as well. Reading your story and thinking back to the high school days...had me putting two and two together... [slow moment]... and Ta Dahhhh lol=). I didn't really pay much attention to it but I knew you guys were great friends...and instead of assume here appears the wonderful truth. I wish you guys the best...thinking of you two brings nothing but smiles to my face as I sit here and type this. I know you guys will be happy together and experience success with one another. You all give me hope on having a successful relationship myself. You know now and days people tend to lack moral sense and become drawn into the wrong things when it comes to committing to a relationship. You guys are living proof that long distant relationships can work and taking your time to know someone can result to you having a great thing in your life...forever. CONGRATS!! -SyMf
